Card Access Control

Union Alarm secures numerous companies with Card Access Control in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer. We also service the Lethbridge & Medicine Hat regions.

Card Access Systems

What are Card Access Systems? They are Entrance Control Systems that include the combination of electronic card readers & specialty door hardware. Together, they control entry to a building using electronic access cards and key fobs. To open an electronically controlled door, users present a proximity card or key fob at the card reader. Consequently, the card access system provides electronic access to anyone holding a valid key card or fob. Programmed using Access Control Software, the system allows you to create multiple user groups and control who can enter a specific door, or given area. It also assigns time schedules to the door groups and restricts when users can access secured areas. In addition, Card Access Systems provide a complete audit trail of door openings showing who entered, and at what time. In addition, you can easily reprogram cards or fobs within the software. This negates the cost of frequently changing locks since access cards are easily added/deleted from the system.

Door Control

Card Access starts with a single door, and grows to include many doors, or multiple sites. In fact, you can control hundreds of doors and sites across the country. Many of our clients include small to medium sized businesses. Most include 4-8 card readers securing front & rear entrance doors with additional card readers between the admin and warehouse areas. In fact, we also secure server rooms, lab facilities and stock rooms using card access control. What areas do you need secured?

Card Formats

Today’s Card Access Systems can include a variety of Card Readers types, and card formats. Prevalent in the market today are standard HID Card Readers, many of which read 26-bit proximity card formats. Many office buildings use these systems today, but in doing so they should exercise due caution. We say that because the 26-bit key card is insecure where almost anyone can order duplicate cards. Think of it like a common key, where someone visits a locksmith to obtain a duplicate! Consequently, the same principle applies to 26-bit key cards and fobs where duplicates are easily obtained. For that reason, Union Alarm installs 36-bit and 40-bit G-Prox Access Cards and Fobs. A more secure bit structure developed for cards that are generated once, and never duplicated. Furthermore, higher bit structures ensure your card access system is secure, and that nobody can circumvent the integrity of the system.

Card Readers

In addition to the card format, Union Alarm recommends and installs matching Card Readers. Our systems are further installed using G-Prox access cards from our partners at GE Interlogix. Also available to our clients are standard switch-plate card readers for wall mount use, or narrow style card readers for installations on narrow style mullions or glass entrance doors. A well designed card reader suited to any architectural design, and a card reader that allows our systems to read multiple card formats. This is an excellent choice for business offices wanting to add floor access within an existing commercial office tower.

Intrusion Modules

A powerful feature of our Verex Card Access System is the ability to add intrusion modules. Firstly, we install the access system by mounting the main control panel. This includes 12-zones of on-board alarm protection. We then add the Verex door controllers in 2, 4 and 8 door configurations to bring in the card access points and terminate the card readers. With the access system installed, we then add expansion modules to incorporate varying degrees of alarm protection. Finally, we equip access control doors with door contacts. This allows card users to quick arm the intrusion areas right from the card reader. A powerful feature allowing users to bypass use of an alarm keypad.

Enterprise Software

Director software offers a higher level of management and control, seamlessly integrating intrusion, access control and video into an intuitive user interface. Going beyond a typical alarm monitoring interface, the software provides central database management for card access and alarms, system configuration, graphical maps and system reports. Options are further available to include the Verex Director Software Photo Integration Package. It features extensive photo badging capabilities, including the capturing of photos, badge design and printing on compatible printers.  Contact Union Alarm for a complete proposal or demonstration.

Photo ID Printers

Union Alarm is a partner with MagiCard ID Card Printers. The Magicard Prima 4 provides a reliable, robust solution for instant issuance in a compact package. Using a re-transfer printing process, images are first printed onto a thin film then heat transferred onto the access card surface. This produces a high resolution glossy image, printed right over the edge of the card. A special dye sublimation Ultra Violet (UV) ribbon can be used with the Prima 4 for the printing of invisible photographs, logos, text or symbols when issuing high security access cards. The UV ink is not detectable to the naked eye, but is only visible with the use of a UV light source. This special YMCK-UV ribbon offers an affordable yet still highly secure feature to decrease susceptibility to counterfeiting.

Photo ID Cards

In fact, the Magicard Prima 4 printer has an optional range of card encoding devices to write secure electronic data to cards at the point of issuance. Smart card encoding options include contact chip, MIFARE®, DESFire® and iClass®. Specialist high-security encoders, such as EMV accredited devices, can also be fitted for the in-line customization of payment cards. The Prima 4 can also be supplied with a magnetic stripe encoder built-in. In addition to printers, Union Alarm further provides high security 36-bit and 40-bit G-Prox cards which are print capable on both sides. Contact us for all of your photo ID and card printer needs.
