How do IP cameras work?
First, the IP camera captures a video stream; then, the system compresses the file to save space and transmits it through a local network to an NVR recording device (Network Video Recorder). Surveillance files are then stored on the NVR’s hard drives.
Do outdoor IP cameras have vandal proof ratings?
Yes. Most outdoor IP cameras have an IK10 vandal-proof rating. The IK (or impact protection) rating measures the camera’s impact resistance. Cameras with an IK10 rating have protection against 20 joules of impact—that’s enough to withstand a sledgehammer attack.
Are IP dome cameras water-proof?
Generally, yes—but ratings vary depending on which camera you choose. Waterproof capabilities are measured by IP65, IP66, and IP67; higher ratings indicate better protection. Most outdoor IP cameras are waterproof to varying degrees.
